Carpal Tunnel

I always knew surgery involved pain, but you never know how much until you are going through it. I, at this point in my life, consider myself somewhat of an expert in the "surgery department". The surgery I had on the 15th of May was the 6th surgery in the past 8 yrs. I know...those odds don't seem very good!! My first surgery was an emergency C-section that brought my beautiful Bethany into this world....what a joyous day!!! However, in the surgery department, it seems to have gone downhill from there. Next came the removal of my gall bladder in June of 02. This was a horrible surgery!! I have much sympathy for anyone that has to have this procedure done! It's not the surgery itself....it's what follows! I will spare you the details...just know it was the WORST surgery of my life!!! I had a car accident that brought on surgeries 3, 4, and 5. They were all knee surgeries (02, 03, and 05). Since 2005 I have been surgery free UNTIL (that's a HUGE word) this year. During our move, I noticed pain and swelling in my hands. This was horrible pain that would wake me from a dead sleep at night. I had no clue what was going on!! I tried everything....tylenol, advil, aspercreme, and many other over-the-counter remedies. I also tried ice and heat...NOTHING WORKED!!!! Nothing really even helped!!! At this point, I know it is time to face the doctor with my problem. After speaking with me, he advises me I will need to see a specialist for a procedure called an EMG because I have Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. CARPAL TUNNEL????? Hellooooooooo I have never done manual labor!!! I have never worked in a factory!!!! I have worked in a comfy, cozy office all my life! How in the world did I get Carpal Tunnel???? I find out from the doctor that does the EMG that a main part of this could be hereditary. The way my wrist are structured....it makes me very susceptible for this condition. After telling me the Carpal Tunnel is severe in my left hand and moderately severe in my right hand......I am now told surgery is once again in my future! Skip forward to the day of my surgery...... I am feeling pretty good after surgery. I am thinking this is going to be a breeze....NOT!!!!! Boy was I wrong! This has been one of the most painful surgeries I have had! I think the main reason being the stitches in your hand pull. It makes it really uncomfortable to move your hand in certain positions. Thank goodness those stitches are coming out in 3 days! I can not wait!!!!!! I am thinking I will wait until the right hand is as bad off as the left hand was before I go through this procedure again. I know it's in my future for another surgery....but I will see how long I can hold out!!! To anyone needing this procedure: Make sure you have a great support system in place....you WILL need them!! My husband has been absolutely amazing while I have been coping with my hand! To my husband: Thank you so much for taking care of me! ....You are amazing & I love you more with each day that passes!! With all that said....I think it's time to rest my hand being the stitches are still in!!! Have a great day!!!!
